International Mixer Utrecht
The Netherlands
(IMU)
Founded by Julia Ferguson
Andriessen and Maarten Andriessen in

WHY
We started this group in April
2000 to provide an opportunity to increase
our circle of friends in the Netherlands. The group is open to people of
all nationalities and genders and partners are welcome.
The suggested language for the
mixers is English to allow the
widest possible participation. The main focus of the group is to help immigrants
and Expats in the Utrecht Province hook up with like minded individuals.
Being in the "love immigrant" category and not living in the Amsterdam
area Julia found it helpful to organize specific events to meet people
and thus the IMU was born. Currently we have people attending from
Rotterdam
to Den Haag to Amsterdam to Utrecht to Veenendaal. So everyone is
welcome!
WHEN
The group meets on the 3rd
Saturday of the month at
The Guardian Engelse Pub in Utrecht. People start showing up between
8:30 and 9:00 pm and go home between 11 and 12pm.
The pub is a small cozy location. There is a dart board and friendly
staff.
There are various British draft beers and you can get them by the pint.
Food is also available until 9:30pm. It is a casual evening with a chance
to "network" in whatever fashion that word works for you.
WHERE
The Guardian Engelse pub is
located next to the Utrecht Central Station
and the Holiday Inn Utrecht. Walk out of the station in the direction of the
"Jaarbeurs".
From the bus or train area it may seem like you are walking for a few
minutes in a covered mall. Eventually you will exit. On your right you will
see the 21 story Holiday Inn hotel. Walk towards the hotel and turn right
as the street curves and the Guardian pub is right in front of you.
There is parking next to the
hotel. Please note that if you are driving from the A2
direction you will need to turn RIGHT on the road before the hotel and then make
a left and turn back a bit to go right towards the hotel. It is one of those
weird situations where the hotel is located behind sidewalks and no street
access from the main road. But don't worry there aren't many 21 story buildings
in the area so you will see it as you approach it from any direction.
The Utrecht tram also stops right in front of the pub and hotel - tram stop
"westplein"
If Grace is not
there, just look for others wearing name tags
or speaking English. I am sure they will make you feel welcome.
